Thousands of people of all ages, abilities and nationalities headed to Safa Park on October 20, 2017, to pledge to do at least 30 minutes of physical activity each day during The next 30.
It was the start of the Dubai Fitness Challenge – the city’s largest organization “to encourage people to develop a sense of fitness and live a healthier and more active life.”
As reported by Khaleej Timesthe call to take up the exercise challenge by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, was responded with great enthusiasm by the citizens of Dubai, who dared to spend their important week for challenge.

On that day, over 10,000 people headed to the park, and the festivities begin on Friday, October 20. The event began with an exciting display as five SkyDive Dubai helicopters descended at a speed of more than 100 kilometers per hour, reaching the center of the area. the main stage of Safa Park amid cheers from the crowd.
Sports celebrities were in attendance, including former England football manager Rio Ferdinand, who encouraged residents of all ages to “get active and be more motivated”.
Participants, young and old, engaged in various recreational and healthy activities throughout the day.

Nick Watson, a resident of Dubai, who was there with his wife and two 14-year-old children, said: Rio and 9-year-old Tia.

Brazilian reporter Marat Leiras, aerial photographer and Sheikh Hamdan, emphasized the impact of this event: “This physical challenge has brought together many families for the sake of health.”

Khaleej Times he also spoke with South Africans Jordan and Tanya, who brought their two children Jorjya (then 6) and Ethan (4 at the time), to participate in the fitness activities even though they are young. The family participated in an exercise class designed to instill a lifelong love of exercise and fitness.

Additionally, a team from Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) was present. They promoted the message of “healthy mind in a healthy body” as they took part in the Desert Warriors Challenge, a key part of the 30X30 Dubai Fitness Challenge that day.

After the successful kick-off event, various events took place over the next few days in 88 locations across Dubai, effectively turning the city into an open gym.

More than 1,500 events were organized to encourage citizens to exercise. More than 500 pieces of exercise equipment were installed in entertainment centers and parks, while offices and schools also took part in the city-wide challenge.
Participants take on the challenge with an intense Les Mills Body Combat session during the Dubai Fitness Challenge 30×30 at Burj Park, Downtown Dubai.
Looking ahead, the 8th edition of the Dubai Fitness Challenge will kick off on Thursday, October 24, and organizers expect it to be one of the biggest events to date.
